No, this time its not about food, well maybe food for thought, and yes, it may be a bit spicy, salty even.  For some time now, I have wanted to write about where I stand on politics at this point in my life.  Unfortunately, this writing is mostly reactionary to a frustration that has been slowly building up and every now and then, seeps through.  I think I have been able to channel that frustration into somewhat of an understandable argument.  In the case of you reading this only to find it an angry rant and nothing more, I apologize for wasting your time.  However, if you it steps on your toes, the least I will do is grab the nearest pair of steel cleats and proceed with jumping . . .on your toes.  In reality, though, my main purpose is to try to boil down what I believe about  the duty of Christians in politics.  Before I start, I would like to acknowledge the fact that there are Godly men in the political world, fighting for good causes but this post is going to be mostly aimed at those who drag themselves away from their American dream only long enough to either blah blah blah on facebook or go vote against all the people they don't like.*sharpens cleats*

Instead writing out a properly formatted essay, I'll just provide my one argument in one paragraph. Any half-ways moral government is created and maintained to help the people living under it. In the years preceding Christ's life, the Jews were aching for political relief.  They needed it too, and that is why Jesus came.  And once he was here, they realized he had better plans that included saving their souls too.  "But wait" you might say, "Jesus lived his life as a homeless craftsman, and not as a powerful political name!"  You see, Jesus came to earth for the purpose of relationship.  Oh sure, he could have come down from heaven and turned the Roman Empire completely upside down, but instead, He came so that people could KNOW THE FATHER ( make sure you get this; its in all caps), experience life and joy, and ultimately, make planet earth a better place to live.  This is why relationship should be first and foremost in our minds when we process political thoughts.  After all, Jesus continues to save the world through relationship.  It is your job to make this practical.

I don't mean to judge those who vote.  In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if I'd vote someday(once I'm old enough, that is)  All I'm trying to say is that we only get across to people once we for the heart instead of just the head.

Macho Hosh Burgers

I guess I haven't blogged for a while.  This may or may not be a good thing.  I have been really busy with school, that is, busy enough that I can't do all the fun things I wish I could do.  The youth group has definitely been treating me well, thinking especially retreat this past weekend.  A good time it was.  Awhile back, my cousin Yolli asked me to right about preparing fish.  Sorry, Yolli, I don't do the grocery shopping in this house, hence, no fish recipe.  If none of you readers have suggestions, here is a recipe I found on on (insert gasp here) Rachael Rae's site: http://www.rachaelraymag.com/recipes/rachael-ray-magazine-recipe-search/rachael-ray-30-minute-meals/citrus-fish-with-bell-pepper-couscous Although I have never made citrus meat, I really enjoy it because of its flavor as well as because of what it does to the meat.  Citrus acid is an acid, obviously, and can break down the fibers in meat, making a wonderful marinade. I read in Field and Stream that you can even soak fish in citrus acid long enough to kill the bacteria as well as firm up the texture of the meat without cooking it.  While safe and better than raw fish, I do not find this very appetizing.  Enough ranting about citrus fish, let's talk about something that I did make.  Because Mom went to PA for a few days and because I like to make food, I made our supper tonight.  Let me tell you about it while it is still fresh on my taste buds. Ha, not really.  This isn't the first time I have made burgers, but it is the first time I have made venison burgers.  Cheers to my friend and hunting partner Jordan Nisly for the meat.  While Roo and I were sitting at the table listening to Rhythm and Move's by Capital Lights and eating these burgers she asked a very important question. "So, Jonny, what name will you give these?"  The best part about concocting recipes is the privileged of naming whatever you make, thus, these became Macho Hosh Burgers.  "Macho refers to the size I made them, while "hosh" is the Pennsylvanian German for deer.  Surprise! I added pictures this time.  Enjoy.

Macho Hosh Burgers

1 1/2 lb ground venison
1/2 lb ground pork
1/4 cup chopped chili peppers(fresh or canned)
2 Tbsp citrus juice(I used fresh lime juice)
1 Tbsp Worcestershire
1 1 oz package onion soup mix
1 tbsp bacon grease
sliced cheddar cheese
bacon

Mix all ingredients together and grill over open flame if you're a man, otherwise, you can fry them in a pan.  I should explain a few of the ingredients.  For those of you worried about fat and such, the ground pork and bacon grease are to help distribute heat and keep the burger from drying out.  While still hot, put cheese and fried(or grilled, microwaved) on the burger.  Enjoy.  Yeild: 10 macho sized burgers, 12-15 sissy burgers.  Note: This goes extremely well with Southern sweet tea.

San Which?

So tonight my older siblings went to a friends house for supper and my parents are gone as well.  A call from my mom verified my eating plans for the evening.  Joy filled my soul.  No actually, I am used to cooking for myself.  I just wrote that because there is a keyboard under my fingers.  OK, lets get on with it.  I think this with a green salad and chocolate milk would make a great meal for two.  I am not married but I do happen to have a younger sister who needs to eat as well.  With that in mind, let me tell you how to make San Which?s.
                                                                            San Which?s
                                                                 - 4 pieces sliced bread
                                                                 - cheese of choice
                                                                 - four pieces bacon
                                                                 - 1 boneless chicken breast
                                                                 - 1/2 cup BBQ or steak sauce of choice
                                                                 - 1 tbsp Itailian dressing
                                                                 - 1 tbsp honey
                                                                 - mesquite seasoning

Mix sauce, dressing, and honey in bowl and set aside.  Slice chicken, fry with seasoning, and set in sauce.  Fry bacon and set aside.   Toast bread and cover with cheese.  Sandwich bacon and chicken between two peices of toast. Selah.

If I do this again for more people, I will try to bake the bread with the cheese to melt it better(microwaving makes it soggy).  This is simple and filling but if it is the healthiest thing you've ever eaten, I suggest you seek a professional couseler.  The above recipe was not written as the food was made so I wrote it according to my memory.  If you happen to die because of this, I take no responsibility.  Hopefully up next: My cousin reads my blog and wished I would come up with a good method of baking fish.  Once I get some fish around, I'll have to try it. ~Jonny

Killer Kasadillas

So far, If my blog posts are boring,  I guess I can confide in creation of food names.  If I ever get tired of creating new recipes, chances are, I will keep making up their names.  Maybe this would happen more out of boredom than out of pure creativity.  Whatever the case, I hope to keep the creativity in the food and not just the names.  Tonight I made some "killer" quesadillas for supper because Mom was gone.  Even though an over abundance of them will leave some temporary gut feelings, they will neither kill you nor your loved ones.  Well then why did I call them that?  Um. . . OK, here it is:  Cherry Pepsi contains absolutely no trace of cherries, therefore, there is no reason my quesadillas should contain killer.  Also, "killer" sounds cave-manly and what is not cave-manly about chicken, cheese, peppers, and tortillas.  Rather than writing down the ingredients as I did with the hamburgers, I will just try to remember how much of the different things went in to the mix.

Killer Kasadillas

                                                          7 large tortillas
                                                          3 average chicken breasts
                                                          3 chili peppers
                                                          1/4 c. canned mushrooms
                                                          3 jalapeno peppers
                                                          1/4 large sweet bell pepper
                                                          Mozzarella cheese
                                                          1/2 tbsp. dried basil
                                                           mesquite seasoning.

Cut up chicken breast and fry, sprinkling mesquite
seasoning on as desired. Set aside.
                                    Finely chop peppers and mushrooms.
Saute with basil and set aside.
In large skillet, fry tortillas, adding ingredients as desired.

Honey Burgers

One thing I wanted to write about from the start was recipes.  Now I don't mean copying and pasting recipes that I find tasty.  I want to create my own.  I love coming up with new foods.  My theory is:  Anyone can read a cookbook, but I want to create and be original.  Currently, I am on a quest to create the perfect burger.  This is my first try so I will have to wait to see how the next round goes.
Honey Burgers

                                           2 lb. ground hamburger
                                           1/2 lb. ground sausage
                                           1/2 c. dry Oatmeal
                                           1 tbsp. honey
                                           1 tsp. dry basil
                                           1/2 tsp. chili powder
                                           2 tsp. garlic salt
1 tbsp. french onion soup mix
                                           1/4 c. chopped chili peppers
                                           1 Tbsp. worcestershire sauce
                                           1 1/2 tbsp. liquid smoke
Mix It all up in a bowl.  Make into approx. 15 patties.  Fry them in a pan.  Eat them.  Simple?  I fixed mine up with home made bread, mayonase, ketchup, Curly's BBQ sauce, tomatoes, Farmer's cheese, onions, and lettuce.

This is experimental so there are a few things that I will change for next time.  I fried them this round due to a lack of time, but I am sure they would be better grilled.  I like putting honey in food, not only for flavor, but also just because I can.  One problem is the honey caramelizes and burns, making the burgers look burnt before they are actually done.  The honey could probably be skipped, but I do like the flavor an awful much to skip it.  Secondly, the chilies did not add the heat I would have liked.  I will try canned jalapenos next time.  I also tried using toasted bread for the first time.   I liked it very much.  Also,  I am sure bacon in the sandwich would be good as well.  If you did that, the sausage could probably be skipped.  I cannot force you to make it, but I would be honored if someone would make some and give me an honest opinion on them.

Rain

It rained last night!  This lovely rain also came with the wonderful wind, thunder and lightning.  Because I like rain, I had to be in it.  Something that I thought would be a very classic and dramatic thing to do would be to play my cello on the front porch.  Actually, it was sort of lame.  Several Reasons contribute to this. Reason number 1:  I was not in one of my rare dramatic spells.  Reason number 2:  I am yet a beginner on the cello.  This being said though, it was actually neat when I could pull off a powerful chord amidst a crash of thunder and a purple flash of lightning.  I did get bored after a spell, though, and went inside.  But oh, this rain makes me want to do some strange things.  It is lightly sprinkling and cooling off right now, so I should go outside.

Experiment

I have now decided to start a blog after facebook is cool and blogs are not.  Why? Well, first off, it really doesn't matter that much and secondly, I felt like having a blog.  Is that a good enough reason? I think it is.
In this blog, I will be experimenting with different topics.
         1.  Food( title explanation) -  I really enjoy cooking and creating recipes
         2.  Farm life - I work on a farm and I enjoy rambling.  Hopefully, these two will go hand in hand.
         3.  Poetry - Just kidding.  I am not that stupid.
         4.  Humor - I like to laugh, read comic books, listen to comedians, and drink caffeine (Trust me,
caffeine and humor do run together at times.)
I guess I did say that this is my first blog, but it is not.  I do have a xanga and a wordpress account.  I created these awhile back and then had trouble posting because of the un-user-friendliness of those sites.  I am, though, really impressed with how easy this setup is.  We will see how this blog turns out.
